Updating Windows is a painful process and it may takes forever sometimes. Although, Microsoft has been promising smaller updates to Windows 10 since years, through different methods. But finally Microsoft has started testing a new update process “Unified Update Platform” that will make a big different by making it less painful.

“One of the biggest community and customer benefits of UUP is the reduction you’ll see in download size on PCs,” explains Bill Karagounis, a Windows program manager, in a blog post on UUP today. “We have converged technologies in our build and publishing systems to enable differential downloads for all devices built on the Mobile and PC OS.”

Differential downloads will allow Windows to only download the portion of the updates you need sine your most recent build. This will cut out much of the useless bloat and will decrease the download sizes to roughly 35 percent. This new change is expected to make debut with the Windows 10 Creators Update that’s schedule to arrive this March.

Moreover, Microsoft says it’s also reduced the among of data stored at client devices — particularly important for mobile devices with small internal memory. Windows 10 mobiles are the real beneficiaries of this update as they will no longer need to update multiple-times to upgrade their operating system in case of couple of builds behind.

35 percent reduction is also a great saving for those on low bandwidth connections, or people with internet cap. This new technology could also help Microsoft roll-out new changes to Windows 10 machine a lot faster. But it is going to change nothing the way update process work on the users machine; they’ll look the same as they always have been, except faster.

This feature, currently, is being tested out with Windows Insiders first before it sets to reach general availability with the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update.
