Pakistan International Airlines is hoping to revive its Bangkok, Barcelona & Germany long lost routes, while upgrading the network to Saudi Arabia and Dubai, Bernd Hildenbrand, the CEO of PIA, said.

Pakistan national carrier, that is working towards reestablishing its footprint in lost routes, is also in negotiation with Boeing to switch five Boeing 777 airplanes with eight Dreamliner 787-8 airplanes – the American company’s most advance and fuel economical airplane to date.

The addition of Dreamliner plans will help PIA to resume Barcelona, Bangkok and Germany routes at the end of the year and at the beginning of 2017. PIA is expecting to resume at least Germany route with-in the next few months.

“The 777s offer a bit too much capacity for our needs”, said Hildenbrand

PIA is also expecting to add 3rd and last Airbus A310 at the start of next year to start three weekly flights to New York JFK airport via Leipzig, Germany instead of Manchester, United Kingdom — Manchester is quite expensive airport and it will help PIA to reduce the operational cost. According to Hildenbrand, the new route can be operational from the start of next year.

No Pakistani airline is allowed to operate direct flight from Pakistan to US. United States has made it compulsory for all Pakistani flights to land somewhere in between to do all safety and security checks again before heading towards any US airport.

The CEO further confirmed that PIA is committed to expand its fleet from current 38 aircraft to 100 aircraft till 2025. “The plan is to operate about 60 aircraft in 2020; 100 aircraft by 2025”, Hildenbrand told an online new agency.

Pakistan Premier, the new premier service launched by PIA has received exceptional positive feedback from the passengers. “Our image is improving constantly”, Hildenbrand apprised.

It is also worth mentioned that PIA domestic shared has been increased from 40 percent to 56 percent which reflects the national carrier efforts to improve services. Pakistan is a market of 200 million people and has huge potential. Hildenbrand is hopeful to revive old image of Pakistan national carrier and brings back the lost shares of it in global market.
