The US Consumer Product Safety Commission made a formal recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones due to serious fire and burn hazards. The decision was taken after weeks of investigation. The move outlines the issues with the phone’s exploding battery due to overheating and draws a road map for the consumers to return or replace the smartphone.

The news should provide a relief to Samsung consumers who are worried over the company’s confusing stance regarding Galaxy Note 7’s ongoing issues. The formal recall includes about 1 million devices.

“Consumers should immediately stop using and power down the recalled Galaxy Note 7 devices purchased before September 15th, 2016”, CPSC recommended!

The CPSC has also updated the US incident figures for Note 7 which has reached to 92 units due to faulty batteries, including 26 incidents of burns and 55 incidents of property damage. “Contact the wireless carrier, retail outlet, or Samsung.com where you purchased your device to receive free of charge a new Galaxy Note 7 with a different battery, a refund, or a new replacement device.”, CPSC said.

It is important to mentioned that Samsung first accepted the problem with the phone’s battery on September 2nd, when it issued a recall with a statement offering customers it would “voluntarily replace current devices with the new one over the coming weeks.”

Earlier this week, the South Korean company released a software update for the Korean customers which caps the battery capacity at 60 percent preventing overheating and ultimately battery explosion. The fix is temporary and it is not available to Note 7 customers outside South Korea.

Moreover, T-Mobile, in response to the CPSC recall statement, also released a statement saying it expects “Samsung Note 7 replacement will be in stock no later than September 21st”.

The company will also offer full refund on the Note 7 and any accessories if any individual wants another device and that money can be used to buy any other device from T-Mobile’s inventory. T-Mobile will also bear any restocking as well as shipping charges, and it also includes a $25 credit on customers’ monthly cell bill.
