Amazon claims Chime as “a modern, fully-managed communications service from AWS that makes it easy for you to communicate with people inside and outside your organization using voice, video and chat.”
According to the Synergy Research Group, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the undisputed market leader for both the public Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud market — and Amazon is hoping Chime can help solidify those leading positions.
Chime’s key features include:
- VoIP Calling,
- Video Messaging,
- Instant Messaging,
- Virtual Meetings,
- Drag-and-Drop File Sharing.
The communications platform has an administration console where users can monitor usage reports, add and remove users from the organization, and perform basic end-user support tasks like assigning new meeting PINs, personalized meeting URLs, ability to record meetings, access to conference room video systems, meeting rooms that can support up to 100 attendees.
Security is another major feature of Chime where messages, videos, voice, and content all are encrypted using AES 256-bit encryption to ensure high security for business-related services.
Chime is available across all the platforms i.e. Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android facilitating users to access the service regardless of whether or not they’re on their desktops or their mobile devices.

Amazon has currently laid out three editions of Chime.While the service’s basic (free) tier comes with standard services such as one-to one VoIP calls, one-to-one video calls and chat room functionality, the paid tiers are where Chime gets some useful features. - Free Edition: Chime’s free plan supports voice and video calls but usage reports and screen sharing features are not included.
- Plus Edition: Plus edition costs $2.50 for additional features like User Management, Active Directory (AD) support and 1GB of message retention per user, per month.
- Pro Edition: This plan builds upon the Plus Edition with screen sharing and video that scales out to as many as 100 users, along with an unlimited VoIP service. $15 per user per month.
